holistic nursing and the healing arts. The course is taught
in four consecutive sessions. Each session is 3-4 days in
length and builds upon previous sessions, moving from introductory

contact hours.
The curriculum
consists of core content courses and complementary modality
courses. Session One participants study core courses at the
introductory level. During Session Two, Three and Four participants
study core courses and integrative modalities concurrently.
Participants may enroll in one, two, three or all four sessions.
Completion of all four sessions is required to earn the Certificate
in Integrative Healing Arts.
Session

Session Two: Integrative Modalities and Caring-Healing
Best Practices
Session Three: Manifesting the Healing Environment
Session Four: Enlightened Healthcare
Core Courses
Include:

Art and Science of Nursing: Holistic Theory as Foundation
for Practice
The scientific foundation of nursing theory provides nurses
with the contextual and relational framework needed to incorporate
complementary therapies within daily practice.
-
Philosophy and Spirituality of Healing
The philosophical and spiritual expression of health is
recognized through a study of human consciousness, healing
archetypes, and the sacred dimension of healing relationships.
-
Transformational Leadership for Organizational Change
Transformational leadership principles assist participants
to develop a personalized relationship-centered style as
they prepare to serve as leaders, change agents, and role
models for organizations experiencing change and transition.

Nurturing the Nurse: Self-care and Renewal
Participants are challenged to look deeply at their own
health patterns, expanding the definition of health to encompass
nutrition, rest, play, personal and professional relationships,

wisdom to identify personal self-care and self-renewal practices.

within the caring-healing process. Nurse participants practice
the art of being authentically present within the therapeutic
relationship, thereby creating the environment for true
healing.

Human Energy Systems: Theoretical and Practical Applications
The theoretical concepts of energy medicine are presented
as a foundation for the incorporation of many integrative
modalities (meditation, yoga, acupuncture, Therapeutic Touch,
Reiki) in medical and nursing practice.
Integrative
modality courses include:
- Clinical Aromatherapy
Clinical aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential
oils for specific clinical outcomes. Participants learn
to integrate 6 essential oils for use with patients experiencing
anxiety, pain, dementia and sleeplessness. Emphasis is placed
on safety and research. Participants will complete brief
case studies.
- Guided Imagery/ Medical Music Therapy
Guided imagery has been used successfully to alleviate pain,
anxiety, sleep difficulties and to improve immune function.
Participants study the use of this modality in clinical
settings including peri-operative, mother-baby and oncology.
New medical music therapy research has documented its effectiveness
in rehabilitation, Alzheimer's disease, and active patient
participation in their treatment plan leading to decrease
length of stay.
- Reiki Natural Healing/Therapeutic Touch
Research has validated the use of human energy field therapy
in the clinical setting for non-pharmacologic relief of
pain, anxiety, and improved wound healing. Participants
